God, in His great kindness and wisdom, created a beautiful world for us that contains everything we need. He gave us plants whose fruits are our food and whose leaves are our medicine. (Ezekiel 47:12) This blog explores my experiences learning to use herbs and essential oils for my family's health. I am a mom and an independent distributor of Young Living Essential Oils.

Using Essential Oils

Essential Oils are the aromatic liquids found within shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, resins, and seeds. These oils contain uniques constituents that provide therapeutic results. Follow the guide below - along with the individual instructions on each label - to experience the amazing health-promoting benefits of essential oils.

Go slowly please essential oils are very concentrated compared to herbs! Try one oil at a time, first only inhaling, then moving on to carefully applying them topically, etc.

Inhalation

Inhaling certain essential oils heightens the senses and can have many positive effects on the body. Try these ideas to use essential oils for inhalation.

Inhale directly from the bottle.

Diffuse with any of Young Living's premium diffusers.

Carefully pour hot water into a bowl and add a few drops of essential oil. Cover your head and bowl in a tent like fashion with a towel. Breath deeply and slowly.

If the oil says "supplement" on the label, pour hot water into a mug and inhale, then drink! I love to do this with peppermint oil for respiratory issues. Make sure you consult your Young Living catalogue to make sure the oil you want to use is not in the "hot" category before you do this. See the caution below for topical use.

Topical Application

Many essential oils are safe to use directly on the skin:

Place 2-3 drops of oil in the palm of your hand or directly on the desired application area. Massage the oil in a circular motion onto the skin. Repeat if desired.

Use one of Young Living's essential oil roll-ons and add an AromaGlide fitment to the bottle of your favorite essential oils for targeted application.

CAUTION: Essential oils are very potent and some may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, apply Young Living's V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex or any pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute. Check your bottle's label to see which oils may need to be diluted.

Internal Consumption

Some essential oils make excellent dietary supplements or food flavorings. To take essential oils internally, try these tips:

Place several drops into a gelatin capsule and swallow it with water.

Add 1-2 drops to a glass of water, NingXia Red or other natural juice, or even yogurt.

Add 1-2 drops to your meals when cooking. Be careful here. One drop may even be too much for some oils. Use a toothpick to get even less than a drop out and experiment.

Make your own tea flavorings by adding 20 drops of essential oil to half a dropper bottle of stevia.

Young Living essential oils that are safe for consumption all say "supplement" on the bottle's label. If the label doesn't say supplement, do not take it internally.

Have fun experimenting with your essential oils! Again, go slowly, trying one oil at a time please so as not to over do it.
