Non-Petroleum Jelly Recipe

I have been messing around trying to make various face creams for a loooong time. I only could make two kinds. The "too hard" kind, and the "It wont stay mixed together" kind. I finally found one I really like! It has the consistency of a salve or balm, so it's not technically a cream (no water), but I really, really am happy with it. I think this will be my new balm base-recipe for everything else I make.

Non-Petroleum Jelly Recipe (Or Balm if you prefer)

1/8 cup beeswax
1/2 cup olive oil

For those of you who like to deal in parts, that would be one part olive oil to a 1/4 part beeswax. I buy pelleted beeswax at The BulkHerbStore.

Melt the beeswax in the olive oil on low heat (preferably using a double boiler.) Pour into glass containers. Stir occasionally as it cools and especially as it starts to thicken. Don't skip the stirring or the mixture will be gritty once it has cooled all the way.

Better than petroleum jelly since it does not have that greasy feeling, and with good for you ingredients!

I was so happy to find this recipe for non-petroleum jelly to replace the petroleum jelly my husband puts on his lips. I gave this to him yesterday and he likes it. I left it unscented for him, but you could easily add your favorite essential oils to this. Lavender would be nice!

This makes a nice gift.
